Quentin Hardy from the New York Times writes that, as Big Data takes off, grass-roots hackers coming up with novel ways to free up and use the data.
A Palo Alto, Calif., company called Lex Machina takes data from patent litigation outcomes and predicts whether or not you should settle, based also on things like the type of intellectual property, the judge and the court hearing the case. “An ethically provocative” product, is how Alistair Croll, Strata’s co-chair, described it. “I’m waiting for a derivatives market in patent litigation.”
