University of Ulster to Develop Big Data Research Centre in Belfast

University of Ulster logoThe University of Ulster is partnering with QUB and the NI Statistics and Research Agency to set up the Northern Ireland Administrative Data Research Centre, a new £7 million research centre opening in Belfast.

Researchers from epidemiology, engineering, social sciences and psychology at the University of Ulster are looking forward to working with colleagues from QUB, NISRA and other organizations on this important initiative,” said 

Professor Hugh McKenna, Pro Vice Chancellor at the University of Ulster. “This builds on our current work on big data within cloud computing and Project Kelvin.
 Having the potential to analyze a large amount of anonymized data presents an exciting opportunity for scientists in Northern Ireland to undertake research that has economic, cultural and social impact nationally and internationally.”

As part of a £64 million investment across the UK to strengthen the country’s competitive advantage in Big Data, the new Northern Ireland Administrative Data Research Centre will be one of four such facilities across the UK.
