SplicemachineSplice Machine, provider of a Hadoop RDBMS, today announced that it’s Hadoop RDBMS has successfully achieved Hortonworks® Data Platform (HDP™) Certification by completing the required integration testing with Hortonworks Data Platform. Built on top of the HDFS and HBase components in the Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP), Splice Machine powers real-time applications and operational analytics, enabling its customers to benefit from the proven scale-out of Apache® Hadoop™.

With the HDP Certification, Splice Machine customers can leverage the pre-built and validated integrations between leading enterprise technologies and the Hortonworks Data Platform, the industry’s only 100-percent open source Hadoop distribution, to simplify and accelerate their Splice Machine and Hadoop deployments. To certify partner technologies, Hortonworks reviews each product for architectural best practices, validates it against a comprehensive suite of integration test cases and performs benchmarks for scale under varied workloads, while comprehensively documenting every step in the process.

Splice Machine’s database enables customers to build applications that use ANSI-standard SQL and support real-time updates with transactional integrity. With the HDP certification, users can now integrate Hadoop into their existing SQL-based OLTP and OLAP applications. Compared to traditional databases, customers typically see performance improvements of 5-10X, while reducing cost by 75 percent.

We are delighted to provide our customers the option to run Splice Machine on the Hortonworks Data Platform,” said Monte Zweben, CEO and co-founder of Splice Machine. “Now, our customers can power real-time applications with transactional integrity on Hadoop.”

Architected for the enterprise, Hortonworks Data Platform was built by the core architects, builders and operators of Apache Hadoop and includes all of the necessary components to manage a cluster at scale and uncover business insights from existing and new big data sources. With a YARN-based architecture, HDP enables multiple workloads, applications and processing engines across single clusters with optimal efficiency. A reliable, secure and multi-use enterprise data platform, HDP is an important component of the modern data architecture, helping organizations mine, process and analyze large batches of unstructured data sets to make more informed business decisions.

Hortonworks is dedicated to expanding and empowering the Apache Hadoop ecosystem, accelerating innovation and adoption of 100-percent open source enterprise Hadoop,” said John Kreisa, vice president of strategic marketing at Hortonworks. “We are pleased to welcome Splice Machine to the growing number of HDP Certified technologies and look forward to working with them to help strengthen Hadoop’s role as the foundation of the next-generation data architecture. The relationship will help accelerate successful implementations of Splice Machine’s Hadoop RDBMS and the Hortonworks Data Platform across the modern data architecture.”
