Never discounting the usefulness of lurking around corners, we just learned that PredictionIO, the open source machine learning stack, revealed that Salesforce has signed a definitive agreement to acquire PredictionIO … The semiconductor industry celebrated a milestone, as Optimal+, a global big data analytics provider, revealed that it analyzed more than 35 billion semiconductor devices on behalf of its customers in 2015, a 50 percent increase from 2014.  These 35 billion units represent the largest centralized repository of manufacturing data ever collected and analyzed in the semiconductor industry. Optimal+ brings unprecedented visibility into the global manufacturing operations of its customers, enabling actionable insights that drive timely business decisions on quality management, and increase yield and productivity … We just learned that RedPoint Global, a leading provider of data management and customer engagement technology, indicated that Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) selected RedPoint’s data management platform to power a new HPE Risk Data Aggregation and Reporting (RDAR)  integrated solution, designed to service the world’s Financial Institutions (FIs). RedPoint Data Management™ will be the underlying platform to manage and cleanse both structured and unstructured data as part of the HPE RDAR solution … Just heard over at Spark Summit East: MapR Technologies, Inc. is now offering a free, complete online Spark curriculum via MapR Academy’s On-Demand Training, leading to developer certification in Spark. The company also made available a preview of Spark 1.6 for developers to test on the MapR Converged Data Platform … — And in big data financial news, Zoomdata, developers of a fast visual analytics solution for big data, reported that annual recurring revenue (ARR) bookings grew more than 11X compared to the previous year, adding 35 new enterprise customer accounts– including Cisco, Deloitte and Markerstudy among others. In addition, the company closed a $25 million Series C equity financing round led by Goldman Sachs’ Principal Strategic Investments Group. New investor Comcast Ventures and previous investors Accel, Columbus Nova Technology Partners and NEA also participated in the round.  … For an optimistic backroom commentary, Aaron Auld, CEO and chairman of EXASOL offers his opinion on the recent fall in stock price of Tableau – “Tableau put out weaker than expected 2016 first quarter guidance that caught the market unawares, but that does not mean that it is the end of the honeymoon for Tableau.  I know for sure that customers and partners will look beyond the ratings of analysts and continue to appreciate what counts: smart, vibrant data visualization technology that makes BI, reporting and analytics easier than ever before.  Wall Street analysts may be going off Tableau for now, but I can tell you that businesses around the globe are only just getting started” … On the people moving side of the industry, Bright Computing, a leading independent provider of management software for high performance computing (HPC) clusters, big data clusters, and OpenStack clouds, revealed that Bill Wagner has been appointed as its Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. He succeeds Matthijs van Leeuwen, who founded the company and served as its CEO since 2009. Mr. Van Leeuwen will remain with Bright Computing as Chief Strategy Officer and board member … Another industry alignment occurred with SAP announcing its acquisition of assets from Roambi, a provider of data visualization and analytics for mobile business users. The acquisition – along with new innovations built on SAP HANA, including Business Intelligence – further positions SAP as a leader in cloud computing technologies that bring consumer-grade experience to enterprise-scale performance … Many companies in the big data space are on an upward trajectory like Talend that just appointment of Barbara Cardigan to SVP of People, reporting to CEO Mike Tuchen. This new position is due to Talend’s Big Data business is up 77% and in Q3 2015, YOY sales grew 122%. The new SVP of People position is an important step in Talend’s mission to continue rising to the top of the Big Data space. Talend also plans to expand its workforce by 200 employees in 2016 … A new Apache project just came into existence, Apache Arrow which establishes a de-facto standard for columnar in-memory analytics which will redefine the performance and interoperability of most Big Data technologies. Jacques Nadeau, VP of Apache Arrow, describes the significance and technical details of the project HERE. Jacques also serves as CTO of stealth data analytics company Dremio … We heard that Treasure Data, a leading provider of analytics infrastructure for growth-oriented businesses, is now offering an Elasticsearch integration, available in Beta. The Treasure Data system offloads the resource-intensive data workloads to enable faster, more valuable analytics queries, while enabling engineering to continue working within the familiar Elasticsearch and Kibana interfaces … European mobile marketing company Beintoo has launched US-based Cuebiq, a next generation business intelligence (BI) company that helps businesses understand consumers’ offline behavior and purchase intent. Antonio Tomarchio, former CEO of Beintoo, has been appointed CEO of Cuebiq. Beintoo will remain a separate company operating in Europe under new leadership.
