Stephen Hawking: Advances in AI May Not Be Benign

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Recently, world renowned physicist Stephen Hawking sat down with Larry King on the Emmy nominated series “Larry King Now.” Professor Hawking joined Larry to discuss the greatest issues facing the planet, including where artificial intelligence is headed (and what he makes of Kurzweil’s singularity theory). Proceed with caution, says Hawking of advances in artificial intelligence, calling Ray Kurzweil’s singularity theory “too simplistic” and warning that once machines can evolve themselves their goals might not be the same as ours. The famed scientist also says that while governments focus on developing AI weaponry, projects using the technology that would benefit humanity take a backseat. insideBIGDATA has covered the AI controversy in the past – for a different perspective.
