Looker-logoLooker, the company powering the top data-driven businesses, announced Looker 4.0 – the most significant update in the company’s history – and unveiled the Looker Blocks Directory with more than 50 Blocks and 12 full data applications built by Looker’s ecosystem of global technology partners.

This release solidifies Looker’s position as the next-generation data platform moving the industry beyond the old-school Business Intelligence way of siloing data in a separate application. Now you can build anything imaginable on the Looker platform, push data to virtually any application, and even close the loop by taking action on the analysis, all from from a reliable single source of truth.

Since day one Looker has focused on the data analyst, evolving the data platform so that data experts can bring a completely different data experience to their business,” said Frank Bien, CEO of Looker. “The culmination of this work is Looker 4.0 which ushers in a new generation of BI/Analytics, addressing the fragmentation of self-service dashboard tools and fully unleashing the power of data on organizations.”

Looker built the new data platform for the modern data world and delivers on the promise of creating data driven cultures. Looker 4.0 keeps the best of the first-generation solutions while jettisoning all the compromises that came with slow, expensive data warehouses, siloed BI tools and outdated methods of software development. With Looker, companies can integrate, transform, govern, explore, visualize, and deliver data in virtually any application.

Today marks the evolution to a comprehensive and robust solution with significant expansions to the ecosystem – all the elements needed for a complete data platform.

Next-Generation Data Platform

Every platform needs robust tools for its developers and the Looker 4.0 Data Platform is no exception. Looker 4.0 includes a brand new development environment with a refreshed LookML – Looker’s simple, powerful data modeling and developing language – and an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) that delivers more powerful tools than have ever been available to data analyst and data developers before.

The new Looker Blocks Directory has over 50 Looker Blocks and 12 data applications built by data experts from Looker, Google, Adobe, IBM, Segment, Stitch, Datastician and many others. These Looker Blocks are powerful analytic templates that make it easy for data developers to quickly build full data applications for their business.

Application developers can easily extend the data platform with the new full, RESTful API that allows application developers to create custom portals and literally anything they can imagine on Looker’s platform as well as making it easy to push data nearly anywhere a user could want it.
With the new Actions and Webhooks the data platform becomes an active participant in the workings of the business. Now, from virtually anywhere or any application, users can pull data, charts or analysis and can take action on the analysis they’re reviewing, edit data anywhere – even in third party applications.

The Looker Partner Ecosystem – a network of over 100 global integrators, technology partners and consulting firms – helps complete the data platform. Companies like Google Cloud, IBM Cloud Services, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Vertica, Fivetran, Das42, Oracle, Teradata, Cloudera, Segment, Snowflake and many more deliver products and services designed to enable customers to create the new wave of data-driven companies.

Finally, in response to customer demand, Looker launched the Looker Data Developer Certification program. The Data Developer Certification objectively verifies that a data developer has the knowledge to effectively develop in LookML and makes it easier for businesses to identify skilled data developers.
