Arcadia Data, provider of a unified visual analytics and business intelligence (BI) platform for big data, today launched its revolutionary platform making it possible for business users to create and share rich visualizations and glean deep insights from their Hadoop data with granularity and speed not previously possible. With the launch of Arcadia Instant, strong momentum from tier-one customers, an extensive partnership network and the launch of Arcadia Enterprise in limited release (with general availability planned for late 2015), Arcadia is reinventing analytics and BI for Hadoop.

Arcadia also announced today that the company has received $11.5 million in series A funding from Mayfield, Intel Capital and Blumberg Capital, which will be used to continue driving its strong momentum.

While most organizations aspire to be data driven, the analytics and business intelligence tools available today are built on outdated models that are fractured, fragmented and expensive,” said Mike Matchett, senior analyst and consultant, The Taneja Group. “As a result, users can’t perform the analysis they need in the time frames required.”

Some of the world’s most data intensive companies across industries —such as HP, MarketShare and Appboy — have turned to Arcadia to derive meaningful insights from their data. According to Gartner’s 2015 Hadoop Adoption Study, one of the biggest barriers to big data adoption is the complexity of Hadoop. The study found that skills gaps inhibits adoption for 57 percent of respondents, while figuring out how to get value from Hadoop was cited by 49 percent of respondents. Arcadia eliminates this challenge by allowing business users to engage directly with data in Hadoop with drag-and-drop ease, so everyone can benefit from data-driven insights.

MarketShare provided a state of the art decision support system on ½ petabyte of data,” said Satya Ramachandran, senior vice president, Engineering at MarketShare. “To understand how our client’s digital campaigns are performing, we need access to granular – not aggregated – data. Arcadia gives our business users direct access to the data they need, when they need it.”

Unmatched Simplicity, Speed and Scale Unleashes the Power of Big Data

The Arcadia platform uses Hadoop as its operating system, allowing it to run directly on the Hadoop servers to deliver scale, speed, flexibility and analysis that surpass the non-converged architectures of the past. Users can quickly and easily perform exploratory analysis on all of their data to get the answers they need, when they need them.

With Arcadia, not only do we get amazing visualizations, but our analysts can get direct access to Hadoop,” said Jim Cunningham, senior staff engineer at HP. “Arcadia gives us almost instant results.”

Arcadia has partnered with companies including Cloudera, Hortonworks, IBM and MapR, ensuring that users have a seamless workflow that delivers performance at scale. In addition to unmatched integration with Hadoop, Arcadia Data also makes it possible for users to build apps across data sources including MySQL, Oracle and Teradata.

Without Arcadia, we wouldn’t be able to gather deep insights from the more than 22 billion user activity data points we collect every month,” said Jonathan Hyman, co-founder and CIO at Appboy. “Arcadia’s drag-and-drop analytics capability and rich visualizations are game-changing for our team and our customers.”

Arcadia Instant Opens Up Unlimited Possibilities

Arcadia Data recognizes that visual analytics must be accessible to everyone. To further that goal, the company has released Arcadia Instant, the visual analytics portion of the Arcadia platform. Arcadia Instant is available for download today from the Arcadia website and on Hortonworks Sandbox, with availability on other partner platforms coming soon. Users can directly connect to Hadoop clusters, and other data sources, to immediately get value from their data by making it visually accessible and shareable within the organization. Unlike trial versions from traditional players, multiple users can utilize the service without limits.

There is an enormous opportunity for businesses to turn data into a competitive asset and make better decisions, faster. Unfortunately, today’s analytics and BI tools lack the integration and simplicity that is necessary to do so,” said Sushil Thomas, CEO and co-founder at Arcadia Data. “Arcadia’s top-tier team of big data veterans from companies like IBM, Teradata, Aster Data and 3PAR have worked in stealth mode for two years to reimagine visual analytics and BI for this new, open source world. We’ve created the only platform that is completely converged inside Hadoop. Now everyday business users can instantaneously interact with all of their data — not just a static subset — to make timely and data-driven decisions.”
