FocusMotion Releases ‘Preview’ App, Allows Access to Entire Motion Tracking Platform

FocusMotion_logo_featureFocusMotion, a motion recognition algorithm company dedicated to improving health through tracking and translating human movement,  today announced its Preview app, which allows access to all FocusMotion tracking technology, including automatic movement identification and activity classification. Preview’s algorithm understands more than 50 of the most popular body weight, dumbbell, barbell and cable-based exercises, and it not only tracks them, but also provides feedback on rep speed, range of motion and consistency. This base algorithm is the only one that works immediately for any user out of the box, with no unnecessary time spent by users teaching the algorithm every movement.

We think these devices have so much more potential than the step tracking we’re seeing, and we wanted to inspire with our release,” said Cavan Canavan, co-founder and CEO of FocusMotion. “By allowing easy access to all of our technology, it provides a showcase for what is possible. We aim to spark conversation and educate people on the frontier of motion recognition. It’s not enough to target steps and sleep. We should be applying this technology to prevent workplace injury, speed up physical therapy recovery, and even monitor police use of force. People don’t realize how powerful wearable devices are because all they’ve seen is steps for the last 10 years.”

FocusMotion_PreviewPreview offers five different methods to track workouts automatically:

  • QUANT: Tracks more than 50 exercises with real-time counting.
  • FREESTYLE +: Identifies and tracks more than 35 exercises over an extended period of time. FREESTYLE+ runs during a workout and will provide every exercise performed, the reps count and rest periods.
  • FREESTYLE FLOW: Tracks one exercise at a time up to 30 and automatically identifies the exercise performed, the rep count and rest periods.
  • CREATOR: Using the FocusMotion machine learning tool, ROBO, users can teach the Preview algorithm new movements that are not in the existing database.
  • ACTIVITY+: Automatically identifies user time walking, running, inactivity and doing any repetitive exercise/activity throughout the day.

The FocusMotion algorithm has already been vetted with partnered brands, including Samsung, Microsoft, Pebble, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Fitorcracy, who leveraged these tools to create Fito+Pebble powered by FocusMotion, the first-ever iOS app that allows Pebble smartwatch users to automatically track their exercises and workouts.

FocusMotion has a track record of wearable innovation. The company previously released a Fitness SDK, the first SDK to allow developers using any platform and OS the ability to automatically track movements, exercises and gestures, and Creator, the first machine learning tool that allows developers to teach the FocusMotion algorithm new movements.

Preview is available for the Pebble and coming soon for the Apple Watch. It can be found HERE.
