Introducing Flo – Bringing Deep Learning to Video Editing

Everyone loves to shoot videos but don’t know what to do with them. Editing videos is difficult, time consuming and a skillful job. NexGear Technology has built Flo – an intelligent camera and movie maker app that auto-edits raw video footage into short cinematic movies using deep learning and artificial intelligence. Flo combines machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing to put together the interesting moments from your videos into a short cinematic movie. Flo recognize objects and understands scenes in the video just like a human being. Now you can just tap on what you want and it will be added to your video story.

Sundar Pichai at Google I/O and more recently Tim Cook at WWDC stressed on the importance of running neural networks locally on the devices.

Flo uses convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to understand a video and then long short-term memory (LSTM) to describe in the form of a human readable text. The AI model has been trained on ~100,000 human described images. Currently, the system is good at describing the scenes correctly but can get even better with training on more images.

• Flo Camera uses deep learning to understand and describe a scene in real-time when the user is recording a video. Flo goes beyond just capturing. It understands what is being captured and describes the scene to you in real-time. Also, the videos captured using Flo’s camera take no time to process.
• Flo Voice Assistant is a revolutionary feature that lets you create video edits by just saying what you want in your video. Just request a story by location, time period, tags or all of the above and Flo will respond to you like your very own video making assistant, creating the video story of your choice, for example “Make me a video story of my cat” or “Make a video of my weekend trip to the beach.” It’s like having an editor friend who can make videos on your demand in seconds. Flo scans through your phone videos and creates a ready-to-share video story of your last weekend’s beach trip properly synced with music and cinematic filter.

Mark Zuckerberg says “By 2019, most of Facebook content will be video”. The aim for Flo is to become the go-to app for quality video creation effortlessly.

Flo is available on the App Store for free. Flo is compatible with iPhone 6s and later. Devices must be running iOS 10 and above.
