In his new role, Gnau will oversee the new InterSystems IRIS™ family of data platforms. Gnau brings more than 20 years of experience in the data management space helping lead technology and data architecture initiatives for enterprise-level organizations. He joins InterSystems from Hortonworks, where he served as chief technology officer. Prior to Hortonworks, Gnauspent two decades at Teradata in increasingly senior roles, including serving as president of Teradata Labs … Algolia, a leading Search and Discovery solution for websites and mobile apps, announced Ashley Stirrup as chief marketing officer to lead corporate marketing strategy and support the company’s rapid expansion. Stirrup brings more than 20 years of technology marketing experience at thriving companies, helping lead through high-growth stages and IPO.
Most recently, Stirrup was CMO at Talend, a cloud data integration company that went public in 2016. At Talend, he was responsible for driving market leadership, global awareness, product marketing and demand generation. In a competitive environment where trusted, real-time enterprise data is crucial to success, organizations are looking for a more holistic and agile approach to data integration and analytics. Bringing together Attunity’s data integration solutions with the data management and cataloging solutions of Qlik Data Catalyst™, Qlik now provides customers a comprehensive enterprise data integration platform to transform their raw data into a governed, analytics-aware information resource. This platform enables the movement of data in real time across multiple cloud environments and data lakes, which when combined with predictive analytics and artificial intelligence, scales real-time insights throughout an entire organization … DataDirect Networks (DDN), a global leader in AI and Multi-Cloud Data Management, announced its intent to acquire Nexenta, the market leader in Software Defined Storage (SDS) for 5G and Internet of Things (IoT), creating the Nexenta by DDN division. The acquisition adds powerful enterprise-class scale-up and scale-out software capabilities for hardware-, protocol-, stack/platform-, cloud- and app-agnostic deployments to DDN’s product portfolio. It brings 3,000 enterprise, telco and service provider (SP) customers, 300 go to market partners, 50 patents and nearly 2,000 petabytes of storage capacity to DDN’s already significant customer, partner and IP ecosystem … Cohesity, a leader of hyperconverged secondary storage, announced that it has acquired Imanis Data, Inc., a leader in enterprise backup and data management for distributed databases. Through this acquisition, Cohesity customers will enjoy the broadest support to easily back up and instantly recover Hadoop and NoSQL workloads and supporting databases, including MongoDB. This adds to Cohesity’s already comprehensive capabilities for backup and instant recovery of traditional databases such as Oracle and SQL, along with virtual, cloud, and physical workloads.

In new funding news, we heard … Sumo Logic, a leading cloud-native, machine data analytics platform that delivers continuous intelligence, announced a $110 million funding round led by Battery Ventures, with contributions from new investors including Tiger Global Management and Franklin Templeton, as well as participation from existing investors. With a current valuation over $1 billion, a record FY19 achievement of more than $100 million in revenue, and over 2,000 customers and more than 100,000 users worldwide leveraging its service, Sumo Logic is firmly positioned as the SaaS machine data analytics leader of choice for the cloud era.

In the new partnerships, alignments, and collaborations category, we’ve learned … OpenText, a global leader in Enterprise Information Management (EIM), announced new OpenText content services will be delivered through SAP Cloud Platform and other SAP solutions. Planned for availability in Q4 2019 and developed on OpenText OT2, the new services will aim to address the need to manage structured data and unstructured content across applications and intelligent business processes. Delivered through SAP Cloud Platform, OpenText content services are planned to become available for applications such as SAP S/4HANA® Cloud, SAP® C/4HANA Cloud and SAP® SuccessFactors® … ADLINK Technology, Inc., a global provider of advanced Edge Computing products, announces that it is collaborating with Intel to develop its latest Edge Computing platform MECS-6110 as an Intel® Select Solution for Universal Customer Premise Equipment (uCPE). The platform will be available in August 2019. Intel® Select Solutions are a family of workload-optimized, infrastructure solutions, aiming to help end users simplify design choices by bundling hardware and software pieces together while making high performance more predictable. The solution consists of a small form factor, low power System-on-Module (SOM) powered by NXP’s i.MX RT106C Crossover Processors, a full suite of sensors, and an associated Anomaly Detection Toolbox. The toolbox utilizes various ML algorithms such as Random Forest and Simple Vector Machine (SVM), to model normal behavior of devices, detect anomalous behavior through a combined local and cloud mechanisms. This allows much lower cloud bandwidth requirements while maintaining full online logging and processing capabilities at a fraction of the cost. Once deployed, the combination of Panzura Freedom NAS and IBM COS provides a single source of truth for converged primary and secondary file data while eliminating costly backup and data recovery workflows … Cray Inc. and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced they are pushing forward the technology boundaries of computational science with the development of the “Frontier” exascale supercomputer for Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), expected to be delivered in 2021. The system will be based on Cray’s new Shasta™ architecture and Cray Slingshot™  interconnect and will feature future generation AMD EPYC CPU and Radeon Instinct GPU technology. This is the third major contract award for the Shasta architecture and Slingshot interconnect; previous awards were for the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center’s NERSC-9 pre-exascale system, and the Argonne National Laboratory’s Aurora exascale system.
