Let’s start off with some new funding news … Hazelcast, a leading in-memory computing platform that delivers the System of Now™, announced it has closed a $21.5 million funding round led by new investor C5 Capital, a UK-based venture capital firm focused on cybersecurity, data analytics and cloud computing. Existing investors Bain Capital Ventures, Earlybird Venture Capital and Capital One Growth Ventures also participated in the round. With this new investment, Hazelcast will accelerate its product roadmap and bolster go-to-market capabilities, including strategic partnering … MakerSights, pioneer of the product decision engine for retail, announced its $8.5 million Series A round led by new investors Forerunner Ventures and joined by Brett Hurt and Brant Barton, the founders of BazaarVoice. They join current investors including Steve Anderson, founder of Baseline Ventures; Hayley Barna, partner at First Round Capital; Bill McComb, former CEO of Kate Spade and Lucky Brand; Elizabeth Spaulding, senior partner at Bain & Company; Jeff Epstein, former CFO of Oracle and DoubleClick … Text IQ, a leading provider of AI solutions for identifying sensitive information, announced it has raised a $12.6M Series A led by FirstMark Capital with Sierra Ventures. The funding will help the company accelerate its expansion into enterprise compliance and privacy.

We also learned of new M&A activity … data.world announced that it has acquired Capsenta to enable businesses to securely access, view, and work with on-premises databases in the cloud. Capsenta’s patented knowledge graph virtualization and modeling technologies create online, business-friendly views of complex data. Teams can now access a single, aligned view of cloud and on-premises data so more of the organization can understand and immediately use it to power better decisions. The combination of data.world’s modern knowledge graph-based data catalog and consumer-grade UI with Capsenta’s technologies enables enterprises to enter the new era of cloud data management which empowers business users to directly access and analyze their data without extensive IT involvement. Together, these graph technologies enable enterprises to securely leverage the substantial value of their distributed non-cloud data assets in the cloud … LiveRamp® (NYSE: RAMP), the trusted platform that makes data accessible and meaningful, announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Data Plus Math, providing the ecosystem with a more effective way to buy, sell and measure data-driven television. Data Plus Math is a media measurement company that works with brands, agencies, cable operators, streaming TV services, and networks to tie cross-screen ad exposure with real-world outcomes. The combination of LiveRamp and Data Plus Math brings together the world’s largest people-based identity graph with unparalleled cross-screen data and key sell-side relationships, resulting in a big win for the entire ecosystem … DataRobot, a leader in enterprise AI, announced that it has acquired ParallelM, a Santa Clara, CA-based company that created the machine learning operations (MLOps) category, which helps organizations scale the deployment, management, and governance of machine learning in production using any ML platform on any cloud or on-premise environment.

In the people movement category, we heard … Kinetica, the Active Analytics Platform for the Extreme Data Economy, announced the appointment of Stuart Fisher as President, Asia Pacific. This strategic hire reflects the company’s continued sales growth and significant momentum in the region. Fisher was Senior Vice President at Deep Instinct, and prior to that held executive roles as Regional Vice President and Managing Director of Asia Pacific at Sophos, Regional Vice President at Sybase, and Senior Director of Asia Pacific at SAP. He will augment Kinetica’s presence across the Asia-Pacific region, building out sales, pre-sales, technical support, and Kinetica’s international partner ecosystem … Moogsoft, a pioneer and leading provider of artificial intelligence for IT Operations (AIOps), announced Andrew Morris has been appointed Vice President of Sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Andrew has over 20 years of experience in the technology sector covering sales, business development, partners and channel. He previously directed channel sales at Splunk, among other roles.

We also learned of a number of new partnerships, alignments and collaborations … GigaSpaces, the provider of InsightEdge, the in-memory real-time analytics processing platform, announced that it has partnered with Tableau, the leading analytics platform, to help enterprises accelerate customized BI visualizations on their operational data for smarter actionable insights at scale. GigaSpaces InsightEdge big data analytics processing platform runs real-time analytics and machine learning on streaming, hot and historical data, in production at scale. Combined with Tableau, enterprises can visualize and understand their continuously updated operational data with low-latency interactive queries. InsightEdge’s high speed big data layer supports sharding, filtering and customized aggregation in a distributed manner for accelerated customized queries. The solution also supports a high number of concurrent users, while retaining extreme performance and scales according to need, handling peak events utilizing a distributed, highly efficient shared nothing architecture where there is no single point of contention between nodes … Venture-backed startup Formulus Black announced it has partnered with Looker, a leading data platform company, for a joint solution to increase query performance up to 70x without complicated database migrations or changes. Formulus Black’s Forsa software, combined with Looker, allow users to analyze and visualize data at memory channel speeds. The efficiency of data teams depends on how fast data can be accessed, transformed, and queried. With this joint solution, Looker and Formulus Black are enabling real time access to data and improving query execution speeds so that data teams spend less time waiting on data and more time on higher value work … Baker Hughes, a GE company (NYSE:BHGE) and C3.ai announced a joint venture agreement that brings together BHGE’s full stream oil and gas expertise with C3.ai’s unique AI software suite to deliver digital transformation technologies that will drive new levels of productivity for the oil and gas industry … Alluxio, developer of open source data orchestration technology for the cloud used by seven of the world’s top 10 Internet companies, announced it has collaborated with Starburst Data, the Presto company, to offer a bundled solution that provides its users with exceptional performance and multi-cloud capabilities for interactive analytic workloads. Users can now transform their legacy data warehouse approach to a modern cloud approach, with a disaggregated compute and storage stack built on Presto, Alluxio and any file or object storage … DataStax, the company behind a leading database built on Apache Cassandra™, announced a technology partnership with Graphileon to include support for DataStax Enterprise Graph (DSE Graph) on Graphileon’s application development platform. Developers using DSE Graph will now be able to leverage Graphileon’s platform for simpler coding and easier visualization of graph data … Leading Enterprise Artificial Intelligence® provider Noodle.ai and the digital resources of SMS group, a trailblazer in digitalization for plant and equipment used in steel and nonferrous-metals production and processing, announced a partnership to further optimize the world’s first learning steel mill for Arkansas-based Big River Steel … Wipro Limited (NYSE: WIT, BSE: 507685, NSE: WIPRO), a leading global information technology, consulting and business process services company and Moogsoft, a pioneer and leading provider of artificial intelligence for IT operations (AIOps), announced a partnership. Wipro will leverage Moogsoft’s industry-leading platform to deliver next-generation artificial intelligence for IT operations (AIOps) solutions for its customers.

As for new customer wins, we heard … Igneous, Inc., the Seattle-based startup delivering the only Unstructured Data Management (UDM) as-a-Service solution, has been selected by Tippett Studio to modernize and simplify its ever-expanding data management and protection operations … The city of Davenport, Iowa, chose to partner with Pure Storage, the data solutions leader that helps innovators build a better world with data, in 2012 to implement a more efficient infrastructure for its virtual desktop infrastructure project and has continued to expand its environment due to the successful relationship with Pure. The city most recently deployed FlashBlade™, the industry’s most advanced file and object storage architected to consolidate complex data silos, which cut the time to download hours of footage from law enforcement officer body and dashboard cameras from 20 minutes to less than two minutes on average. This performance improvement allows the city to optimize use of police cars and resources, while improving public safety by ensuring footage is downloaded and uploaded in a timely manner … Anodot, the Autonomous Analytics company, announced that MegaFon, Russia’s leading mobile phone operator, will be leveraging Anodot’s Autonomous Analytics to analyze and predict the impact of incidents on services for company subscribers … A graph database has been adopted to apprehend smugglers and drug traffickers located at the immigration control areas of airports and harbors. Bitnine recently announced that AgensGraph has been introduced to Korea Customs Service’s (KCS) project, ‘Smart Customs’. Smart Customs platform analyzes the entry/departure records in real time and thoroughly manages the customs administration through AI and big data technology … Teradata (NYSE: TDC), the industry’s Pervasive Data Intelligence company, announced that Saïd Business School, University of Oxford will begin using Teradata Vantage. As part of the Oxford Future of Marketing Initiative (FOMI), Oxford Saïd will use Vantage for research that aims to provide answers to some of businesses’ most critical marketing challenges.

And finally, in new IP news … Anodot, the Autonomous Analytics company, announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office is in the process of granting the company a new patent, which enables Anodot customers to receive alerts on business incidents that are both accurate and in real time. Anodot’s new filed patent titled System and Method for Efficient Estimation of High Cardinality Time-Series benefits Anodot customers through reducing estimation time of millions of time series metrics – a scale that is required for discovering business-related incidents. This ensures Anodot customers receive extremely accurate anomaly detection based on patterns for billions of time-series data measured continuously.
