Data 2020: State of Big Data Study

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Our friends over at SAP recently published a study that highlights some really compelling findings around data scientists. There’s a wide gap and serious discrepancy in the level of importance organizations place on data scientists and the number of data scientists they employ. With analytics ranked as the most important technology in the enterprise, enterprises must have data scientists to derive valuable business insights from the analyzed data. There’s no longer a question of if data scientists are valuable to an organization, but instead why there’s a lack of data scientists employed. Below are some key statistics from the study, along with a summary infographic:

  • While 79 percent of respondents said that data scientists are important to ensure a company’s success, only 53 percent currently have data scientists employed.
  • In such a high-demand field, 78 percent are concerned about a shortage of data scientists and people with the right skills to successfully work with data in the future.
